Abstract:

Background and Aim: Considering the importance of proper sedation in cataract surgery, this study was conducted to make a comparison between the effects of ketamine-propofol combination and fentanyl-propofol combination for sedation in phacoemulsification surgery. Methods: In this clinical trial study, 84 patients who were candidates for phacoemulsification cataract surgery were assigned to two groups. Each group consisted of 42 patients. Ketamine-propofol combination and fentanyl-propofol combination were used for induction of sedation for the first and second groups respectively. We assessed and compared sedation depth (using Ramsay score), hemodynamic parameters during operation and recovery, and satisfaction of the patients and surgeons between the two groups. Results: There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of baseline variables, demographic characteristics, sedation index and patient and surgeon satisfaction. There was no significant difference between two groups in relation to blood pressure during operation and recovery periods but the heart rate at the 10th minute of the operation and at the beginning of the recovery in the ketofol group was significantly higher, and also the mean Spo2 was higher in the ketofol group at the 10th minute of operation. Patients in the ketofol group showed less hemodynamic changes. Conclusion: Both combinations of ketamine-propofol and fentanyl-propofol were associated with the effective sedation, satisfaction of the patients and the surgeons. But generally, hemodynamic status was more stable in the patients in the ketofol group.

A comparison of sedation quality with midazolam-ketamine versus propofol-ketamine during Phacoemulsification surgery

Background: Phacoemulsification surgery is one of the most common surgeries in the world. Various drugs have been used alone or in combination with each other to provide effective and safe sedation in patients, but so far, a drug method agreed upon by anesthesiologists has not been proposed. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the sedative quality of midazolam or propofol with a low do...

comparison of propofol-ketamine vs propofol-fentanyl for pediatric sedation during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy

background: selection of the best sedative regimen during pediatric endoscopy with greater stability in hemodynamic parameters and fewer side effects is very important. the aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of propofol – ketamine versus propofol – fentanyl in pediatric undergoing diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (ugie). methods: in this clinical trial,...

A Comparison between Sedative Effect of Propofol-Fentanyl and Propofol-Midazolam Combinations in Microlaryngeal Surgeries

Considering the growing trend of laryngeal surgeries and the need to protect the airway during and after surgery, among several therapeutic regimens to induce sedation, two regimens of propofol-fentanyl and propofol-midazolam were compared in microlaryngeal surgeries. Forty ASA I-II class patients undergoing microlaryngeal surgeries and referring routinely for postoperative visits were randomly...

Comparison of Dexmedetomidine Versus Ketamine-Propofol Combination for Sedation in Cataract Surgery.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to compare the sedative properties and haemodynamic and respiratory effects of dexmedetomidine and a ketamine-propofol combination (ketofol), which are expected to have minimal effects on spontaneous breathing. METHODS Sixty patients were enrolled in this prospective randomised study. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the administration of dex...

conscious sedation and analgesia in colonoscopy: ketamine/propofol combination has superior patient satisfaction versus fentanyl/propofol

conclusions iv bolus injection of propofol-ketamine can lead to more patients’ satisfaction than the other protocols during colonoscopy. results mean satisfaction scores in the group pk were significantly higher than the group pf (p = 0.005) while the level of sedation during the procedure was similar (p = 0.17). hemodynamic parameters and spo2 values were not significantly different (p > 0.05)...
